Grandmaster Roger L. Fife
Professor Great Grandmaster Roger L. Fife’s martial arts training began on his eighth birthday, in 1958, when he was given a Jujitsu GI rather then the bicycle he wanted. Professor Roger Fife first studied the Martial Arts of Judo and Jujitsu under Leon D. Carver, his step-father, at the Memphis naval Air Station in Millington, TN.
In the 1960’s, Professor Roger Fife began studying Kosho Kempo Karate under Doctor Professor Great Grand Master Simeon M. Eli at the Barbers Point Naval Station Hawaii. Master Simeon M. Eli was one of Grand Master James Mitose’s first students. Professor Roger Fife was promoted to Black Belt and later to Nidan by Grand Master Simeon Eli.
In 1968, Professor Roger Fife enlisted in the Untied States Army serving a total of six years. While training army members in Korea, he started his training in Tang So Do near Tagon, Korea.
In 1974, Professor Roger Fife began teaching Grand Master Simeon Eli’s form, Kosho Ryu Kempo, at Spoon River College which was one of the first accredited martial art classes in the state of Illinois.
In 1982, Professor Roger Fife was promoted to Roko Dan (6th Degree Black Belt) by the United States Karate Association headed by Grand Master Robert A. Trias, 9th Degree Black Belt. Master Trias had trained with Kosho Ryu founder Grand Master James Mitose while he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in the 1940’s.
In 1984, Professor Roger Fife was appointed to the United State Karate Law Enforcement International Board of Directors, “Police Self Defense Instructors”.
In November 2008, with over forty years as a Black Belt and fifty years in martial arts, Professor Roger L. Fife was promoted to KoDan (9th Degree Black Belt). He remains teaching at the Canton, Il Y.M.C.A.
