Grandmaster Quentin Fong

     Grandmaster Quentin Fong was born in Kwong Tung Province, China. Around 1950, when the communists had taken over China, Master Fong's parents had sent him to Hong Kong to live with his godmother. It was at this time that Master Fong was exposed to Gung Fu, since his Fu in 1951. By chance he had seen a movie in Wan Chi District in Hong Kong and saw a studio and went in. At that time he didn't know what system he was practicing. In 1959, Master Fong's Sifu, Lak Chi Fu, became very busy so he learned some advance sets like the Law Hon set from Si-suk, Tang Chak Ming, who was also a Master at the studio. When he got into those advance sets, he found out that the system he was practicing was called White Crane.
     In 1960, Master Fong left Hong Kong to stay with his uncle in Nicaragua. He left Central America, and while visiting his brother in Oakland, was convinced to settle in the Bay area. It was not until 1966 when he began teaching White Crane. Some of his friends who were also Gung Fu practitioners were very impressed with Master Fong's knowledge and techniques and asked him to teach them. From a private class with seven guys, to over twenty-five, and still more came.
     Master Fong is one of the few Masters who have actually studied the whole system of Bok Hok Pai (White Crane). He is one of the first pioneers to introduce the White Crane system in America. He still has a studio in San Francisco, California, where he still teaches the White Crane system and Lion Dancing. Master Fong is one of the official consultants on the White Crane Athletic Federation's Board of Directors. He also serves as one of the Senior Advisors for the Hawaii Kenpo Jujitsu Society and was the recipient of the Legend Award in 1999.
