Grandmaster Mifflin Gene Holden Kancho

Grandmaster Mifflin Gene Holden Kancho     Grandmaster Holden has been involved with the Martial Arts for the past 43 years. Beginning in 1958 not only as a student but as a Sensei of both Karate and Kobujitsu. Grandmaster Holden holds senior ranks in Goju-ryu karate both of Okinawa and Japanese tradition as well as in Kobudo. His training has led him to train in the dojo of many of the leading Grandmasters of Goju-Ryu.

- Toguchi Seikichi Judan of Shorei-kan Goju-Ryu
- Miyazato Ei'chi Judan of Jundo-kan Goju-Ryu
- Shinjo Masanobu Kudan of Shobukan Goju-Ryu
- Yonemoto Kiyoshi Hachidan of Sobukan Goju-Ryu
     Grandmaster Holden has also been a Uchi-Deshi (live in student) at the Hombu of Grandmaster Taiani Hanshi of the Chodokai Goju-Ryu. He has from 1976 to 1996 taught at various recreation centers in the Philadelphia area. Receiving his Shodan in 1968, he went on to be giving senior ranks. From 1978 to 1980, he performed annual demonstration for the Philadelphia Schools of Recreation Centers. In 1982 he join the International Karatedo Organization of Yamamoto Gon and Taiani Choji Hanshi. On April 25, 1988, he was awarded the Shihan rank by the I.K.O and the Chodokai. Grandmaster Holden has been a Chief Instructor of the Gojushinkai and Mibukan Dojo in the Philadelphia area with students as far away as Guam. On July 18, 1993, he reorganized his schools and form the Okinawa Karatedo Goju-Ryu Kyokai Inc. The year of 2000 started off with him receiving Golden Lifetime Achievement from the World Karate Union, 2001 the World Head of Family Sokeship Council gave him Master Instructor of the Year. The crowning achievement in the year 2001 was that the Mibukan Goju-Ryu was change to the To'on Kempo Karatedo Goju-Ryu and he was given the title of Kancho with the rank of Grandmaster Grade with the blessings of two Grandmaster of Goju-Ryu. Grandmaster Holden lives in the Philadelphia area and still teaches classes at his clubs and YMCA.
