Grandmaster Larry Lee Morgan

Grandmaster Larry Lee Morgan     Grandmaster Morgan was born on June 14th, 1955 the 8th child of Charles & Madeline Morgan in Compton, California. He began formal martial arts training at the Boys Club of Garden Grove, California in 1967 in Karate and boxing programs. In 1968 Grandmaster Morgan started training in the Kenpo system in Garden Grove, Ed Parker Kenpo Karate Studio, under Master Pierre Bergere, the Chief Instructor of the school, Master Fred Brewster and Master Tony Sator. The studio later broke away from the Parker System. Grandmaster Pierre Bergere headed the UYBA Karate Association, Grandmaster Fred Brewster headed the Universal Kenpo Kung Fu Association and Master Sator remained with the Parker System until his death. Grandmaster Morgan continues his relationship with the UYBA & UKKA systems till this day and is the President of the UKKA as of 2002 with the rank of 8th degree, promoted at the Internationals in Long Beach by Grandmaster Fred Brewster along with the promotion of Kenpo artists such as Frank Trejo, Bob White, Dave Hebler and other Kenpo Grandmasters. In 1971 Grandmaster Morgan moved to San Diego and began training with Grandmaster Benito Hom at the Hom Institute of Martial Arts Science where he attained the rank of 4th degree black belt. At the request of Grandmaster Hom, Grandmaster Morgan began training under Master Steve Delmundo at Bushi's Limalama/Alua Kung Fu studio and attained the rank of 1st degree black under Master Delmundo. Grandmaster Morgan was employed by several major production companies assigned to the international acts division as lighting director, lighting designer, stage director, stage manager, and security chief coordinator. He held assignments with over 300 acts including The Who, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Wings, Journey, Heart, Van Halen, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, U2, and The Police. Grandmaster Morgan toured with these acts until 1980 when he entered the U.S. Navy. While he was in the Navy he was Chief Instructor of the USS Haleakala Martial Arts Club and was the 7th fleet Karate Champion 1981-1982. Grandmaster Morgan studied with various martial arts Masters/Instructors in Hawaii, Thailand, Guam, Japan, Korea, and the Philippians. While in the Navy, Grandmaster Morgan signed to the U.S. Naval Security Detachment in Subic Bay, Philippians. After his 4 years in the Navy he returned to the world of music by protecting international acts in the United States as chief security for various production companies. Grandmaster Morgan also returned to teaching with Grandmaster Hom in 1984 until his death in 1986.Grandmaster Morgan was selected to head the Hom System by the Executive Board of the Governing body of the Pacific Islands Martial Arts Group and became Executive Director and current Grandmaster. By official decree the system was renamed CHIHOMDO to honor Grandmaster Hom and to keep his vision alive. In 1989 Grandmaster Morgan joined the Guardian Angels Safety Patrol program as a trainer with Master Chuck Beach and rose to through the ranks to lead the chapter as chapter leader in 1990-1991. He has been affiliated with the Guardian Angels since. In 1991, Grandmaster Morgan and Master Chuck Beach joined forces and opened the Association of Martial Arts Karate Studios and worked together until 1995 when Master Beach contracted cancer and the Association of Martial Arts School's were disbanded. Master Beach continued teaching until his death in 1999. Grandmaster Morgan, along with Instructor Mike Siegfried founded Martial Arts Unlimited Karate studios teaching combined martial arts. Grandmaster Morgan began competing in 1999 in the Masters Black Belt Divisions earning California and Nevada state titles, United States National titles, as well as World titles in weapons, kata, showmanship, and musical weapons divisions. In 2000, Grandmaster Morgan was inducted into the Filipino Martial Arts Hall of Fame and in 2005 Grandmaster Morgan was inducted into the Hawaiian Martial Arts Societies Hall of Fame in the silver lifetime achievement category for over 35 years in the martial arts. In 2005 Grandmaster Morgan won the Filipino National title in the masters advanced weapons divisions in San Diego, California. He was the only American allowed to compete in that event held outside the islands ever. In 2006 Grandmaster Morgan was elevated in the Guardian Angels to the position of the first National Training Director for Tactical Operations and Training where he currently oversees the training of 107 chapters in the United States and carries the rank of 4 stars.
