Grandmaster Mike Stone

Grandmaster Mike Stone

Grandmaster Mike Stone attend high school on the island of Maui, Hawaii. While in high school, he was an outstanding athlete. Grandmaster Stone first started training in the martial art of Aikido while in high school

In 1962, he joined the U.S. Army where he was intrigued with the hand at hand combat training in self defense. While stationed in Arkansas, Grandmaster Stone trained under Herbert Peters. Grandmaster Stone was encourage by his teacher to enter his first martial arts tournament in 1963 in the Southwest Championships as a brown belt. After that first tournament, Grandmaster Stone began winning many tournaments taking first place in kata and freestyle. During that same year, it was always between Grandmaster Mike Stone and Allen Steen. In 1964, Grandmaster Stone entered the Jhoon Rhee's Nationals in Washington, D.C. where he won the Kata, freestyle and won the outstanding karateka trophy.

In 1964, Grandmaster Mike Stone won the International Karate Championship and the Western U.S. Open. In 1965, he won the Nationals and Internationals. By 1996, Grandmaster Stone was undefeated in over 90 black belt matches. In 1968, Grandmaster Stone return home when he was selected to be a member of the U.S. karate team and was voted the outstanding competitor of that team. Grandmaster Stone became the first professional light heavyweight champion of the world. In the 1970's, Grandmaster Stone won the Chinese kata competition and was the grand champion at the International Karate Championships. He was also inducted into the black belt magazine hall of fame - instructor of the year.

After retiring from competition, Grandmaster Mike Stone travels the world giving seminars in the martial arts and motivational seminars. Grandmaster Stone and his family currently lives in the Philippines.
