Master Jayson Perry

Master Jayson Perry     Master Instructor Jayson Perry (Jay), like his father began his career as a wrestler. At the age of twelve, he began training with his father who at the time was training for a berth on the U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman team. For two Olympic games and trials spanning over eight years, Jay worked with his father as a throwing dummy and training partner helping his father hone in on his techniques. During these years as Jay was getting educated in the art of Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Judo, Sambo and Kung Fu / Wing Chun, he did not have the pleasures of most beginners that enter this arena. Most beginners get their bumps and bruises while learning, but then they get to dish out a little also. But because Jay was training with his father that was already at the World Class level, and all the training partners were also at the World Class level, Jay learned a lot, but didn't get to the satisfaction of beating-up too many training partners. However, he did perform well with style, class and advanced technique when he competed in his High school wrestling events. Jays dedication to helping his father, never saying no when his father wanted to train or practice a new technique, was rewarded by the great elite training he received. As Professor Perry traveled to Hawaii, Guam, Mexico and across the states competing and/or researching different martial arts styles, Jay accompanied him eagerly willing to be twisted, bent, choked, or thrown across the mat as many times as needed to perfect a technique that his father selected. He also volunteered many times to Uki for many great masters such as Professor Wally Jay, Professor James Muro, and Sensei AL Ikemoto.
Although Jay was running his own school after training with his father for many years, obtaining his Black Belt did not come so easy. His father was very strict about Jay learning all the required techniques to become a Black Belt. During his time as a Brown Belt, Jay fought in many tournaments and competitions and most the time won everything, even when he would compete at two or three weight classes higher then his division. (Jay liked looking for the biggest guy at the tournaments and challenging them.) But his father wanted him to learn more then fighting. He wanted him to learn to be honest and fair, to be humble and respectful, to be in harmony with himself. His father wanted him to think like a man, like a Sensei with logic and understanding. His father wanted him to want the Black Belt bad enough to look inside and see that it's not the belt that makes the man, but the man that makes the belt.
While Jay kept waiting to be promoted, he kept competing and winning enough competitions to be ranked 14 degree Brown by the Full Circle system. Finally, do to the overwhelming pressure put on Grandmaster Perry by the other Sensei's and Instructors that new Jay, he was presented his Black Belt in the presence of fifteen other martial arts instructors at a tournament co-hosted by Perry's Full Circle and Jujitsu America.
Sensei Jay has been running his own schools for the past eight years. He has produced at least a dozen fighters that have won National, World and/or Pan American team member titles. He also has fighters that fight frequently in Mexico in Pankration, Kickboxing and B.J.J. grappling.
Jay is ranked 5 th degree Black Belt in the PFC system, and holds Black Belts in Sport Jujitsu, Pankration, and Judo. He has been inducted into the Hall Of Fame with his father as a father and son team two times, and was inducted into the Hall Of Fame of The Hawaii Martial Arts International Society 2003, as the Pioneer of Perry's Full Circle.
At the World Martial Arts Hall Of Fame ceremonies in 2001, Jay received the title of Master Instructor from the W.M.A.H.O.F. council.
Jay has conducted seminars on his own throughout California, Hawaii and Guam and spent four months in Mazatlan, Mexico helping the teams down there prepare to compete in the 2004 Olympic games in the sport of Pankration. Jay is also a certified International Pankration Referee.
One of the main driving forces behind Perry's Full Circle is my son, Jayson. Since age 12, Jayson has been beside me on the mat training for any and all the competitions in which I competed. He was subject to training with only the best, the athletes that trained for international, world and Olympic caliber competition. He was always willing and ready to learn more, even if it meant that he had to take more flying lessons until I got my throws down efficiently. With all his airtime, he has to be the worlds best Uki.
As Perry's Full Circle entered different martial art arenas testing the newly created mixed martial arts system against other styles, Jasyon was always on the front lines ready, willing and determined to show everyone that Perry's Full Circle was for real.
In following my footsteps, Jayson has ventured onto other martial arts outside of the many Full Circle techniques already being taught. He is always seeking more experiences and knowledge of the arts. I believe his day will come, and he also will be a leader in the martial arts world. I feel I am blessed to have such a great relationship with my son, and I am fortunate to have such a loyal and dedicated student.
