Grandmaster Charles Kalani

Photo Not Available     Professor Charles Kalani was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Professor Kalani began his jujitsu studies in 1939 under Grandmaster Henry Okazaki. He later attend Weber Junior College (now Weber State University)in 1948. Professor Kalani was later drafted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served until 1966. While stationed in Germany, he served along with Grandmaster John Chow-Hoon and was also his teaching partner at the Monterey dojo.
      After serving his time in the U.S. Army, Professor Kalani entered professional wrestling in 1967 and took on the stage name, Professor Toru Tanaka. He has also acted in over 20 movies. Professor Charles Kalani died on Aug. 22, 2000 in Lake Forest, CA.
