Grandmaster Frank Mamalaas
As a youngster growing up on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, Frank Mamalias was immersed in the Filipino martial art of Kali, otherwise referred to in Spanish as escrima. In total, he trained with 14 teachers - several of who taught him the secrets of this ancient art. He was privileged to walk with his teachers in the forest, where he saw them do magical things.
Mamalias was the last training partner of grandmaster Floro Villabrille, considered the most famous kali master. And although he shuns the title of "master" himself, his skill and knowledge are legendary in martial-arts circles worldwide.
Mamalias in one of just a very few who have trained with the old timers in several of styles. He was accepted by them, which only a few got that far with the old timers.
