Professor Don M. Tingcang
He grew up traveling with his parents throughout the United States. During his father’s last duty station, which was at Fort Richardson, Alaska from 1965 to 1967. During that period of time that’s when he first started his martial arts training. He started training September of 1965 to June 1967. Reason for him stopping training his father was being transferred to Hawaii to be retired from the U.S. Army.
Upon returning to Hawaii in July of 1967, he took a 3-month lay off from training to look for another martial arts club. He return to training in October of 1967 with John A. Pagdilao. He trained with him until July of 1973.
He entered the US Army in July of 1973. During his adventure in the military service, he travel through out the United States and two tours in Korea; He trained with several Kenpo Karate Clubs in the United States and took some training in Taekowndo in Korea while he was stationed there.
Upon his separation from the US Army in October of 1980, he returned to Hawaii and took a two-month layoff from training. In January of 1981 he return to John Pagdilao and continued his martial arts training with him. He stayed with him until June of 1996.
At that time he started his own school. From that time he created the Independent International Kenpo Karate Association. He held this Association for a couple years, in which he later took the name of Tingcang Self-Defense Institute. Tingcang Self-Defense Institute was created in the year of January 1998.
His club was at Pearlridge Elementary School in Hawaii for a couple of years until he moved his training to his residence in Waipahu, HI. He trained their until he moved to Florida in March of 2003.During that period of time he promoted his nephew Landen Tingcang to and Nathan Kaai to Black Belt.
After their promotion he departed to Florida, during March of 2002. After three months in Florid a, He opened another Martial Arts Club, which was opened in August of 2002. He have been in Florida until late 2004 when he returned back home to Hawaii.
