Alyse Rome
Alyse Rome is the founder and president of Amazing Kids! (www.amazing-kids.org), an educational, non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring excellence in children and helping them realize their own amazing potential. Before founding the organization in 1998, Alyse was a marketing executive in the software industry and prior to that, an elementary school teacher in Southern California.
Alyse’s love of children and concern for their future prompted her to start Amazing Kids! Alyse wanted to provide a resource where kids could go to read “success stories” about their peers and to find positive peer role models to emulate. She also wanted to provide them with access to mentors (the “Amazing Mentors! program) who could provide them with the tools to help them explore and realize their own amazing potential. Alyse writes and produces the Amazing Kids! of the Month stories each month on the Amazing Kids! website. The website currently has an archive of the nearly 5 years of Amazing Kids! of the Month stories.
A former “amazing kid,” Alyse was in an accelerated program for gifted students throughout her elementary and high school years. She was a recipient of several scholarships in college, graduating with high honors with a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Cal State University Fullerton, and from University of California, Irvine, where she received her teaching credentials. She received a fellowship from Boston University for her graduate studies in International Relations and International Communications. A former athlete, Alyse was a champion fencer in college, ranking 2nd
individually in the Southern California Intercollegiate Fencing Conference and leading her team to a first place victory.
Alyse is a published writer (a short historical fiction piece on Harriet Tubman, Through Freedom’s Gate has been published twice by the California State Department of Education, in two textbooks that teach how to teach writing to teachers.)
Alyse is currently developing the Amazing Kids! television show and live touring show and hopes to launch the tv show on television and in video stores in late 2003 and the touring show in mid-2004.
Alyse and her husband live in San Pedro, California with their own “amazing kid,” Annalea Heather, age 15 months.
