Professor Jaime Abregana Jr.

Professor Jaime Abregana Jr.     Professor Jaime Abregana Jr. first studied the martial arts of Kenpo, Karate, Jujitsu in 1968 under his father, Grandmaster Jamie Abregana Sr., founder of the Ewa Kenpo Karate Club. In 1978, Professor Abregana Jr. was awarded his black belt. He was also an outstanding amateur boxer in the 1970's.
     After receiving his black belt, he enlisted in the United States Army. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Accounting. As a professional boxer, Professor Abregana fought the ABF Flyweight Champion. After retiring from professional boxing, Professor Abregana began promoting professional and amateur kickboxing from 1986 to 1989, sanctioned by the World Karate Association, Professional Karate Association, and the Karate International Council of Kickboxing.
     Professor Abregana also studied the Filipino martial arts of Karaan ( Escrima.Kali) under the tutorship of Grandmaster Ralph Sisneros. In 1995 and 1996, Professor Abregana won two (2) World Kali Traditional (full-contact) tournaments in Mindanao, Philippines.
     After the death of his father in 1994, Professor Abregana became the successor to the Ewa Kenpo Karate Club, which he later took on the name of Abregana Self Defense Institute. In the 1990's Professor Abregana expand his knowledge in the Chinese martial arts of Bak Mei and Haak Ga under the tutorship of Professor Randy Choy of the Chinese Athletic Martial Arts Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii.
     Professor Abregana has received numerous awards from politicians from Hawaii for his accomplishments in the martial arts. In 1999, he received the Commendation Award of Grandmastership from the Philippines Consulate General-Hawaii and the Council of Elders from Mindinao, Philippines for his accomplishments in the Filipino martial arts of Karraan. He currently is a member of the Council of Elders. Also recieved a letter of Commendation from the Governor of Hawaii and the Mayor's Proclamation award just to name a few.
     In 1995, Professor Abregana Jr. founded the Hawaii Kenpo Jujitsu Society, which is currently now known as the Hawaii Martial Arts International Society which has members worldwide amd considered one of the largest martial arts organization. Professor Abregana has been inducted into several international martial arts hall of fame.
     Not only is Jaime Abregana Jr., is a martial artists, but he has been hailed as an Ambassador to many and have touch so many people in so many ways. Jaime Abregana Jr. , is very much his own man. A man, moreover, still shaking his head over how far he's come and the blessings that have been bestowed upon him. In fact, expectations have ran high from the start who is named after his father, Jaime Abregana Sr. He is also known by the nick name of "Jama" and when asked what does "Jama" means, he simply replied, "it's the initials of my parents" Jaime Abregana and Mary Abregana.
     All it took was one trip to Mazatlan, Mexico to meet up with his friend Juan Hernandez who is a movie actor and coordinator. Jaime Abregana went to Mexico to meet with Juan Hernandez and teach at a martial arts seminar and later to discuss and plan for their future film "Showdown" which is also written by Jaime Abregana Jr. Jaime Abregana Jr., was immediately embraced by the people of Mexico with his kindness and humor. While in Mexico, he met with many of Mexico 's celebrities and business associates. Wherever he went, he always took the time to meet and talk with everyone no matter who they were.
     While working on a few trailers for their upcoming movie, Jaime Abregana Jr., we're asked to do two commercials and even a music video with one of Mexico's well known female performers " LA Factoria". While all of these were happening, Jaime Abregana Jr., was recovering from his surgery on his right shoulder just weeks before arriving in Mexico.
     Jaime Abregana Jr., grew up in Hawaii. He grew up listening to all kinds of music. He especially recalls listening to Latin music his parents always played, sing and danced to. Although his nationality is Hawaiian, his ethnic background is Filipino, Basque, Spanish, Puerto Rican, Japanese, Irish and Morocan. Jaime Abregana Jr. , considers himself blessed being raised in Hawaii because of it's international cultural backgrounds. He says that in Hawaii Family, Culture, Respect and Love is what Hawaii is all about for everyone. Even though some of us do leave the islands, you can never take out the Aloha Spirit that is in us.
     Despite his growing fame in Mexico, however, Jaime Abregana Jr. remianed relatively unknown of his involvement in the entertainment industry in his native Hawaii. Jaime Abregana Jr., career started when a good friend of his Steve Dowd of Nevada told him of a friend who was producing a movie and needed more martial artists to act in. Jaime later received a call to fly to California to filmed in that movie and later acted as one of the main characters of the movie "Transformed" of Paramount Pictures. At that time, Jaime met up with Mario Prado of Steven-Gilbert-Morris. They immediately made a connection. It seems that Jaime makes a connection with everyone he comes across. Jaime and Mario are working on a film "A Warrior's Heart" which Mario wants to film in Hawaii in. Besides Jaime's upcoming movie "Showdown" which is now in development and to be filmed in Hawaii, Jaime will be casting in Quentin's Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez new film Grind House in March 2006.
     In 2003, Jaime Abregana has been given the opportunity to be a part of several film projects. His first film were "Transformed." He has worked with the likes of Ken Moreno (the One, Collateral Damage.) He also worked closely with others that have given him different outlooks and the drive to take on such projects, such as Mario Prado, Cary Tagawa, TJ Storm, Alan Chan, Juan Hernandez, Stephanie Cheeva, Suzanna Stefankovicova, Robert Chapin, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Andy Garcia, Dusan Hyska, Chow Yun-Fat, Jennifer Lopez, Antonio Banderas, Brad Pitt, Ramon Gomez, Rod Schneider and Julio Reicios. Currently under developement is "The Gateway" Martial Arts in Hawaii. This is an A & E documentary produced by Jaime Abregana Jr. about the martial arts and its history in Hawaii . Despite all this, Jaime Abregana is also schedule for casting in the movie "Amapola" with Andy Garcia which to be filmed in Mexico . He also filmed in the film Dark Ride and in several national commercials.
