Clayton David Wood
Clayton David Wood was born on August 6, 1988 in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. It was on September 1998, when Clayton Wood was about 10 yrs old he found himself to study karate. He enrolled to a local Martial Art School in Fort St. John, British Columbia Canada instructed by SFMA Chief Instructor Sensei Bernardo Fabia Salinas and his two sons, Sensei Jerrick Salinas and Sensei Jewel Salinas of SFMA Martial Training Society. Clayton enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of all the students in the academy, and the hard training given by the instructors, especially respect, and discipline. He decided to stay and continue his hard training to achieve his goal to be a blackbelt in the future.
In 1999, Maestro Bernardo Fabia Salinas founded The Northern Tigers Shotokan Karate Association, is a non-profit organization to assist students, and practitioner to further their training and experience in martial arts. To reward the students that shows dedication to their studies in school and in martial arts. Clayton, pursue his decision to stick with it, and encourage himself to work harder on his training in martial arts and studying harder in school.
Clayton Wood accomplishment:
In June 1999 he was awarded the Most Improved Student of the year by the SFMA Martial Training Society. In year 2000 he was 3rd runner up of NTSKA Scholarship Award. And in the year of 2002, Clayton Wood achieved the prestigious award, the Jr. Scholarship Award sponsored by the (NTSKA) Northern Tiger Shotokan Association and the Most Outstanding Student Award given by the SFMA Martial Arts Training Society.
To his training in martial art he develops his self-esteem, control and confidence. Clayton enjoys competition; he competes mostly in local Karate tournament in northern British Columbia and also in Alberta. Because, he believed himself of his hard training, he always come home with gold or silver medals in Kata, Kumite and Team Kata categories. His best competition was 2003 at the Dragonfest Martial Arts All Style Competition last March 15, 2003 held in Prince George BC Canada where he placed gold in Kata and Kumite, and won the 2003 Division Grand Champion Award in Kata. Three weeks after the competition he competed in the Tigerfest Invitational Competition held in Fort St. John last April 5, 2003 where he captured and won the same title on his division the Grand Champion in Kata.
Clayton Wood is not only a karateka, but he is also an Arnis Practitioner. He studies a traditional Sinkatan Arnis a Filipino Martial Arts taught by Grandmaster Bernardo Fabia Salinas. Clayton is now 14 years old and he is looking forward to get experience in International Competition and he decided to go with the selected SFMA student to compete in the International Open Martial Arts Tournament and Filipino Stick Fighting tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada this coming July 13, 2003. Clayton really enjoys being in martial arts not only for the physical training and activities but also to the people that surround him, which he considers them as a family. He plans on continuing his Martial Arts throughout his life to achieve his goal in future. |
